LiquiGlide is the first and only company to create permanently wet slippery surfaces. There is no other durable solution that makes viscous liquids slide easily. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, we are led by top scientists and successful entrepreneurs. LiquiGlide’s patented technology, with an ever-growing IP portfolio, enables the development of a vast array of custom-designed, liquid-impregnated coatings. LiquiGlide’s technology was developed in the Varanasi Research Group laboratory at MIT. Dave Smith was a PhD student in Professor Kripa Varanasi’s lab, trying to solve the problem of methane hydrate build-ups in oil and gas pipelines by using liquid-impregnated, slippery surfaces. Seeing some success in this area, they began to think of other applications, including consumer goods and packaging applications. In 2012, Dave created the iconic glass ketchup video, which went viral, triggering thousands of inquiries from Consumer packaged goods companies wanting to use LiquiGlide’s technology. Shortly following, Dave and Kripa founded LiquiGlide Inc., in the fall of 2012. LiquiGlide’s mission is to change the way all liquids flow. We want to make an impact around the world and across industries, even creating new sectors focused solely on liquid-impregnated surfaces. What the wheel was to transportation, LiquiGlide™ is to liquids – it changes the way liquids move. Not only do we want to revolutionize consumer packaging, reduce waste, and create efficiencies; we are motivated to save lives and improve the world, one application at a time.
